Simple Definition
The mandatory deductions from your salary: AHV (Old Age), IV (Disability), and EO (Loss of Earnings/Maternity). Total ~10.6% split 50/50 between you and employer.
Why this matters to Expats.
You cannot opt out. Even if you are a freelancer (Sole Proprietor), you must pay this ~10% yourself. It buys you the right to a state pension and disability support.
